Death Cafe at Colney

Tuesday 3rd March 2015

On February 22nd Colney hosted a Death Café. The concept was started in the UK by Jon Underwood who, inspired by an article in the Independent detailing the work of Bernard Crettaz, developed the concept. The First Death Cafe was hosted in Jon’s home in Hackney and was facilitated by psychotherapist (and Jon’s mother), Sue Barsky Reid. Since that first meeting in 2011 over 1550 Death Cafes have been hosted in 29 countries around the world and the objective is simple; to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. A Death Café is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes held in a relaxed and informal environment. Death Café is not a counselling or support session but are always held in a respectful and confidential space and you are, of course, guaranteed plenty of tea and cake!
