Fathers Day Event

Tuesday 19th June 2018

What a Great turn out we had on Sunday.  The Fathers Day Event was a great success! The event was held for all those families that have lost their loved ones, as a way of celebrating their lives and also to raise money for local fundraising campaign.  On the day the families where presented with a glass of bubbly on arrival and then invited up to Oak View, where the founder of the campaign, Chris Carberry cut the ribbon to opened our new Lavender Memorial Garden.

For those who have not heard Chris’s story, in December 2015, Chris was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer in his leg called Osteosarcoma. Unfortunately, after treatments didn’t prove as successful as he’d hoped, 19 year old Chris chose to have my leg amputated in March 2016. Since then the cancer has returned multiple times.  Now 21, Chris is looking for an alternative treatment, due to the severity of his relapse and the aggression his cancer is showing.  His best hope of survival is through clinical trials abroad, that cannot be funded by the NHS.

The brave Chris took a few moment to tell people his story and our Park Manager Karen said a few words and read a poem.  On the day over £200 was raised, so thank you to everyone who made the effort to come and donate from all of us here at GreenAcres Rainford.  We also have a few other people to thank, including Chris Carberry for taking the time to come and speak to us about his experiences.  Also thank you to Dave Bennett for donating the beautiful wooden planters that make up our stunning new Lavender Memorial Garden.  Feel free to come over and take a look for yourselves.
