Thursday 22nd December 2016
Our Christmas Services of Remembrance were held on Sunday 18th December, at 11am and 2pm, led by Celebrant Mark Tyack and featuring performances by male barbershop harmony choir Fine City Chorus.
It was a beautiful service, including readings by past and present Colney staff. The choir was truly breathtaking and performed a mixture of carols and festive songs. Mark’s words and choice of readings were both meaningful and thought-provoking. Afterwards, everybody gathered in the courtyard around the Christmas tree, and the tree’s lights were switched on as the choir sang. Then it was time to warm up with hot chocolate or mulled wine, and mince pies.
Over £150 was collected for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices’ ‘Nook Appeal’ to build a new hospice facility in Norwich, and an application has been made to GreenAcres parent company’s ‘Giving Something Back’ programme, for this amount to be doubled via match funding.
We were overwhelmed by the number of people who took the time to say to our staff how much they’d enjoyed the service. A truly lovely day, and a fitting way to remember all the loved ones that we miss.
Our thanks go to Mike Mitchell, Adam Berry and all in the Fine City Chorus, to Mark Tyack, to Barbara Wratten and Jackie Warren for providing the refreshments, and to Joyce Smith for her heartfelt reading. And our warmest thanks to all our families who attended. We hope you have a peaceful Christmas.
