Monday 2nd June 2014
On the glorious, sunny afternoon of Sunday 1st June, the Colney Woodland was filled with the wonderful sounds of the Broadbeat Choir, in aid of Star Throwers Cancer Support Charity, based in Wymondham.
Sandra Edwards expertly guided her choir through a variety of songs from the musicals, upbeat pop and slower tempo favourites, including ‘Rolling in the Deep’, ‘Beyond the Sea’ and concluding with a wonderful rendition of ‘One Day More’ from ‘Les Miserables.’ The passion, enthusiasm and fun within the Broadbeat Choir was obvious to see – and the audience loved every minute!
A representative from Star Throwers spoke passionately about the work of charity, who support people affected by Cancer. He talked about their ethos and the story of the origin of their name: After a storm, hundreds of Starfish were washed up onto a beach. A boy started throwing them back into the ocean. A passer-by shouted to him “It’s no use – there’s too many of them – it won’t make any difference.” As the boy picked up another Starfish and tossed it back into the water, he said “It made a difference to that one.”
We are delighted that the event raised over £230 for this wonderful local charity, which will be match funded by GreenAcres parent company, Bibby Line Group.
Our grateful thanks to Sandra Edwards and the Broadbeat Choir for a wonderful afternoon.
