White Willow at Rainford

Thursday 9th March 2017

With branches reaching skyward and pale leaves whipping in the wind the White Willows around our car park have thrived at Rainford. During the winter the woodland staff and our volunteers remove excess growth from willows and replant the shoots to produce the next generation and hopefully encourage this native tree to flourish.

Fun fact: Willows are well known for naturally pruning themselves, when a tree matures branches are dropped and as the willow naturally resides adjacent to a river the branches are swept downstream to take root and flourish.
